Mountain Views

Most of my business travel takes me to urban landscapes.  However, sometimes I am lucky enough to find myself in a place where I can add on some vacation days and take in a bit of nature.

In June of 2003 my travels took me to a meeting in Canmore, Alberta, a short distance from Canada’s Banff National Park and the Columbia Ice Fields so I took advantage of the location to rent a car and enjoy a bit of the Canadian Rockies.  I never did make it to Lake Louise but did hike up Johston Canyon and a bit around Moraine Lake and take the gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain overlooking the town of Banff.

In June of 2004 my work took me to a meeting in Krakow, Poland so I took advantage of being in the old country to revisit  Morskie Oko (Eye of the Sea), a crater lake high in the Tatra Mountains. Unfortunately, the weather that weekend was drizzly as well as cloudy.  As my time was limited, I took the bus to Lysa Polana and hopped a horse drawn wagon to the lake instead of trekking up on foot as the rain was getting steadier. The rain let up enough to allow a circuit of the lake before heading back down the mountain and returning to Zakopane.  (One of these days I’ll have to scan the photos I took of Morskie Oko thirty years ago when the sun was shining.)
